Volunteer Car Services
Most ‘community transport’ services in the UK are volunteer car schemes. They are often used to fill gaps in rural public transport networks but large urban car schemes also exist. They can be a flexible, cost-effective mobility solution anywhere in the UK, provided their funding is sustainable, they are carefully planned and commissioned and actively managed.
Central to the success of all car schemes is effective volunteer recruitment and ongoing support for organisers and drivers. We have direct experience of many car schemes, particularly in relation to driver recruitment, and provide invaluable support for local authorities, NHS Trusts, rural development agencies, national charities and even village halls.
