Blue Badges

The Blue Badge (Disabled Persons’ Parking) Scheme is long-established and over two million badges have been issued. Recent changes, often described as the biggest shake-up of the Blue Badge scheme since its introduction in 1971, mean that people with ‘hidden’ disabilities, such as dementia, autism or anxiety disorders are now eligible.

Local authorities are expected to achieve and maintain consistent, professional standards and ensure that badges are issued to those who need them, without a protracted eligibility process. We provide advice and guidance on the management of the Blue Badge Scheme and have been engaged by the DfT to make recommendations to improve administration, assessment and enforcement practices.
