Social Care Transport

Whilst changes over recent years have meant that fewer journeys are provided for service users attending traditional day care centres, there is a growing need to provide safe (often accompanied) journeys to more diverse destinations. This can lead to additional vehicle journeys with fewer passengers per run and the needs of those passengers, in terms of support and equipment, can be greater than in the past. Hence, the cost per passenger journey is increasing.

Many authorities provide adult care journeys with their own in-house minibuses, drivers and passenger assistants which might be centrally based or managed by care centre managers. We work with local authorities to introduce better ways of commissioning and providing social care journeys, identify opportunities for shared use of resources and our approach focuses on all aspects of passenger safety and wellbeing. We find that a fresh look at in-house operations can produce significant savings and other benefits.
